Can our dog understand how we feel?

At certain age, at certain time, or at certain point of our life, we may experience lonely, lost, despair and helpless. Have you ever feel like that? I do…., sometimes I feel like talking to someone, but very contradicting, I just can’t tell why and how do I feel inside, and don’t feel like mention it at all. Many times, I keep most of my feeling inside. My emotion, my thinking, my sadness. All I drink it like a big glass of water…… “ghrrrp”. First, I have this ego problem, I can’t tell or show how weak I am as myself. Second, I don’t want to make anyone worry for me……

Perhaps my best companion would be a dog. Even though I do not have a dog at this moment, but from experience, and from what I learn from other friends, dogs can sense how we feel. Verbal communication with another human, a friend, sometime does not work better than sharing my feeling with a dog. They give you that kind of look, so warm and loving.

Is it possible to train an adult dog?

Well…, the answer is yes and no, and it very much depends on individual dog actually. Most people believed that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. It is partly true because, dog are quite like people, and by the time they are grown, they are much more “set” in their ways.

However it is not impossible to train an old dog, but the method might be different from training a puppy. Below are a few Tips, Do’s and Don’ts for training an adult or old dog.

1. You got to be a lot more firm and stricter towards adult dog compare to puppy.

2. You got to understand the background of the dog. Like how he had been trained before, it would be of great advantage if you can find out from previous owner or the place you adopted him.

3. House-train your dog on the first day he arrive. Show him the bathroom and place to eliminate. Praise him if he eliminate at the right spot.

4. Train by tricks - this means make your dog believe that whatever he does, is his idea. For example, if he sit down, quickly you call out “sit”, repeated that a few times and he will eventually familiarize “sit” as a command for him to sit down. You may want to try come, stay, fetch, etc.

5. Keep training session short, like 3-5 minutes is good enough.

6. Remember, reward is very important. Every right deed needs a treat from you.

7. Be consistent with your training method and stay positive always.

What Human Food I Can Feed My Dog?

What “Human” Food Are Ok For my Dog?

Previously I post about food that are poison to dogs. Today, i’m going to share a bit on what human food are ok to feed to dogs. Some of the food we eat, are good for dogs. Of course, there are many packet and canned pet food in the market, they are claimed to be included all the necessary nutrition that are needed by a dog.

But if you think of having some variety for your dog’s diet, you can try some of the food listed here. However, the food here do not refer to the scrap food or leftover from your table.

This is just a small list of examples of foods dogs can eat Dogs won’t necessarily get all the nutrients they need if they eat these foods exclusively, so check with your veterinarian if you are interested in feeding your dog a home cooked diet.

Any food that causes stomach upsets or digestive problems in your dogs should be avoided. Like people, some dogs cannot tolerate certain foods even if they are considered “safe”.

**Meats, Chicken or turkey breast, boneless fish, beef Liver, chicken livers

The meat should be boneless and with skin removed

**Vegetables like carrots, green beans, lettuce, capsicum

It is advisable that the vegetables to be put through food processor before giving to the dog for better digestion cause their digesting system is different from human.

**Grains like rice, bread and oats safe to be taken in small amount.

Why dogs need toys?

Toys Are Dogs Best Companion When You Are Not There

For dogs and other animal companions, toys are not a luxury, but a necessity. Toys help fight boredom in dogs left alone, and toys can even help prevent some problem behaviors from developing. Dogs are often more than willing to “play” with any object they can get their paws on.

Be Cautious And Play Safe

The things that are usually most attractive to dogs are often the very things that are the most dangerous. Dog-proof your home by removing string, ribbon, rubber bands, children’s toys, pantyhose, and anything else that could be ingested.

Choose The Right Toy For Your Dog

Toys should be appropriate for your dog’s size. Balls and other toys that are too small can easily be swallowed or become lodged in your dog’s throat.

Remove or alter any toys that might be dangerous to your dog, such as ribbons, strings, eyes, or other parts that could choke your dog. It’s better not to keep toys that start to break into pieces.

You May Want To Know Some Toys Tips……

  • Rotate your dog’s toys weekly by making only a few toys available at a time. Keep a variety of types easily accessible. If your dog has a favorite, like a soft “baby,” you may want to leave it out all the time.
  • Provide toys that offer variety—at least one toy to carry, one to “kill,” one to roll, and one to “baby.”
  • “Hide and Seek” is a fun game for dogs to play. “Found” toys are often much more attractive than a toy which is obviously introduced. Making an interactive game out of finding toys or treats is a good “rainy-day” activity for your dog, using up energy without the need for a lot of space.
  • Interactive toy play is very important for your dog cause such play enhances the bond between you and your pet. By focusing on a specific task—such as repeatedly returning a ball or playing toy “hide-and-seek”. Your dog can expel pent-up mental and physical energy in a limited amount of time and space. This greatly reduces stress due to confinement, isolation, and boredom. For young, high-energy, and untrained dogs, interactive play also offers an opportunity for socialization and helps them learn about appropriate and inappropriate behavior, such as jumping up.

Between dog and your lover?

Jealousy

Dogs, like men and women, can become jealous when they feel they might have to share treats and attention. They want full attention and love from their owner. It is sometimes call, possessive behavior in dogs. It’s important to incorporate the person you’re dating in your dog’s regular activities to prevent competition and promote compatibility.

Your dog will welcome your love interest at the front door with excitement when it has accepted your love match! But, after several months of dating if your dog doesn’t warm up, you might want to check out the personality traits of your breed with your potential mate to find out if happily forever after is in your future.

Between dog and your lover

How to overcome that?

It is important that you must start to become the dog’s leader and regaining control. Most possessive behavior is caused by dogs thinking that they have a right to defend ‘their’ property from you or anyone else. As their owner and leader you are the best person to ensure they don’t think like that.

To overcome this behavior you need to use brains rather than brawn to achieve good and permanent results. Always remember, never give into them when they over demand things. You still give them the attention and love they want but only where and when you decide to.

Overweight Pet? Time to on diet!

What is the main cause of my overweight dog?

The reasons actually sound quite like human though.

1. Overfeeding

2. Lack of exercise

3. Hormonal disorder

4. Genetic predisposition

First thing to do is to change of diet and do more exercise, like us :). However if the problem still persist, it’s always best to consult a vet. Animal obesity is actually quite harmful to your pet, cause it may end up in diseases like cardiovascular, diabetes mellitus, depression, respiratory problems and joint disorders.

There are actually product in the market that can encourage weight loss of your pet, by elevating metabolism and aiding elimination of fat. The results might be faster with the 3 combination: regular exercise + change to low fat or healthier diet + natural health supplement.
