They are so famous now…. Lucky and Flo are a pair of black Labrador Retriever, notable for being the first animals trained to detect optical discs by scent. 2 days ago, they both have received awards from the Malaysian government for their efforts in sniffing out and crippling movie pirates during their five-month campaign. They also mark a momentous occasion as being the first animals ever to receive outstanding service awards for finding discs stockpiled by pirates.

Now take a look at these champion dogs!!

Choosing A Healthy Puppy

Since I’ve moved to my new house, I’m considering to have my own puppy now. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a very long time.

When I was younger, my family owned a coffee shop business and we stayed upstairs of the shop house. I wanted to have a dog but my mom said it’s not appropriate as we are doing food business and she worried that some customer may not like it.

Then after many years…, the business got closed down, and we moved to a residential house, and I thought, yes, now we can have our own dog! Who knows, my brother got married, and my sister-in-law is an anti-dog person. She doesn’t like furry animal, that includes cat, dog, hamster, etc.

Then, my last hope was to get a dog in my own house, now, finally it happens….

You might want to learn some tips on which puppy to choose from. Take note on a few things.

• Eyes: They should be bright and clear with no weepy discharge from the corners
• Ears: Floppy-eared puppies should still have very clean, shiny inner ear areas. There should be no excess wax or black material in the ear.
• Nose: Ideally, it should be cool and wet to the touch. If the pup has just gotten up from a nap, his nose may be dry. If you notice no other signs of illness but the dry nose and he interacts well with you, you’re probably safe.
• Coat: His fur should be silky, shiny, and well-maintained. No puppy available from a breeder should have a matted or tangled coat – this would indicate lack of proper care on the breeder’s behalf and you should be very cautious.
• Skin: Should be clean - no sores, dandruff, or parasites.
• Check for hernias - the pup should have no odd lumps or bumps in the abdominal area.
• The bottom should be clean with no sign of diarrhea or discharge from the genitalia.

The 7th Month - Animal Ghost

Today is the 2nd day of the 7th Month in Chinese Calendar. Or people called it the Hungry Ghost Festival. A lot of superstitious and Do and Don’t among the believer during this 1 month, like not to come home late at night, not to say things that is unlucky, or not to talk about “them”.

At this moment, I was wondering whether does Dog or other animal can become ghost…. i found the below article from Shadowland…..

Animal Ghost

I have an affinity for stories of animals ghosts like the faithful dog returning to visit his master. I personally have experienced this with my dog Sparkee (who is featured on The Shadowlands main page) who came back 3 times to visit me and also appeared in a lucid dream. I have heard many stories about other animals returning from the grave. The most common seem to be dogs, cats, horses and birds. The experience can be auditory like hearing the jiggling of a collar and tags or hearing the animal bark, meow, etc. Others may see the animal like I did in my case. I have also heard of people feeling the animal curling up next to them in bed and not seeing anything there at the time. This brings us to the question of how is this possible? If we believe that ghosts are the spirits or souls of a deceased human being then wouldn’t that mean that the animal spirits are the same thing? Many religions do not believe that animals live on after death. I believe that certain animals, maybe even all, have a spirit that lives on. I have no doubt that what I had experienced with Sparkee was real and I’m sure all the others that have had a similar experience share this view. In fairness and keeping an open mind, I must also admit there is another popular theory concerning animal ghosts. This theory is that we give the pet, through our love and devotion, a “spirit” which is created from the energy of all out emotions concerning that pet and out wish to see it again. I have always leaned toward the first theory of animals having souls and there are many cases of psychics contacting the deceased animals which would not be as likely if the second theory was true. I’ll leave it up to you to decide for yourself.

I do want to mention one other type of animal ghost that we see in many stories and that is one that represents some evil presence in the home. For the most part the ghosts of pets normally just show themselves to their former family. There are other cases of a somewhat more active haunting also having an animal spirit being observed. Most investigators that deal with the darker hauntings look for this as a sign that there may be an evil presence at play somewhere in the situation. The most common animals to be seen in this type of haunting are black dogs, black cats, rabbits, goats and other small black rodent-like animals. Now they are usually seen in hauntings that do have other symptoms of a diabolical haunting so don’t assume if you see a dog ghost that you don’t know, that you have a evil spirit there, that’s jumping the gun a bit.

How to train puppy not to bite on furniture

Now that I’ve moved to my own new house, it make me appreciate more on my house furniture. The first thing that come to my mind is…, how to protect my furniture against dog bite… I kept a few record of the good tips and now is the time to apply it.

1. Biting and chewing is a natural process for puppy or dog, we as owner need to understand that and provide sufficient chewing toy for them.

2. Start early is good as biting is a process of teething, teaching the puppies what is allowed and what is not at an early stage is very important.

3. Never try to stop a puppy’s biting by hitting the puppy. Say “No” when he start to bite on your shoe or furniture. Pass him a chew toy and praise him or reward him when he does the right thing.

4 . Make him understand that biting on furniture will result in bad consequences such as you leaving him or put him in the crate let him associate treats with a chew toy.

5. Some toy manufacturing company has come up with better chew toy idea which called Active Toys. This include the Amazing GoDogGo that allows your dog to play fetch on his own. Also, the infamous Kong and snack activity balls which allow your dog to seek out food in an active way and Hide-a-toy plush toys where smaller toys are hidden inside one larger toy. Keeping your dog busy by using these toys will often prevent chewing on your furniture.

Home Sweet Home

Ohhhh….., finally, i’m 99% done with my new house renovation. It’s a real real tiring job but exciting, it’s my first time, choosing the sets of sofa I want, the color of wall I want, and the look of overall setting of my own house! It’s not an easy job and can really drained you out, both energy and financially -.-”

I learn  a few things from after this house reno thing. I thought I can share some with you.

1. First, decide on what type of concept you want your house to be. Zen? Antique? Japanese? or what, maybe can do some research on internet or go to the bookshop to get an idea to see what style you decided.

2. Do lots of research and shop a few shops before you rush and buy any furniture or electrical equipment including lights, fan, tables, etc. Compare their quality and the budget you can afford.

3. Once you know what you want, draft it down all and see whether is it within your budget. Always spare extra cash like a few thousands 0r more for the renovation cause sometime you might missed out certain things.

4. If you are not familiar with the different contractor on the reno, like plumber, carpenter, electrician and etc. It’s good that you go through and renovation company, they can give you advise and ideas, but of course, first and most important, you must tell them what you like. Remember the small small things like, light and fan position, light setting for all rooms, power point position, and it can go on and on to very details. It’s best if you can go to their showroom, or look at some examples of ready build model so you can have better visualization.

I guess there are more tips on the reno things… but so far this is how much I can share with you :).
